Bulgaria The National Innovation Fund established at the end of 2004 with a budget of 5 million leva (approximately 2.6 M€) supports knowledge transfer from academic research labs to SMEs with the aim of aiding the re-structuring of SMEs to meet the challenge of incorporating new technologies. Government Initiatives In 2000 and 2001, co-operation with the international financial institutions was strengthened. A new 3-year agreement with the International Monetary Fund was signed for the use of Extended Subsidiary Funds. The Government also concluded an agreement with the World Bank for a 3-year supporting strategy based on the priorities of the structural and social reforms in the country.
