Nanoforum / BIT Seminar - 2nd Call for Nanotechnology and Nanoscience in FP6
Italy Italy has allotted nearly €59m towards nanotechnology research,
out of which nearly €40m was earmarked for the Veneto District. The funds
distributed to Veneto support more than 10 National Industrial Programmes. This
includes health, automotive, biomedical, advanced materials, communications
systems, food safety, and transport.Italy boasts five centres of excellence in
nanotechnology.
Veneto Nanotech is funded by the central government, the regional government of Veneto, local administrations and institutions, for an expected total investment of 55-60 million Euros over 5 years.
Public and Private Centres
CIVEN is an association between the University of Padova and the University Ca’ Foscari of Venezia devoted to the promotion of research and training activities in the field of nanotechnology.
National Nanotechnology Lab (NNL)
The National Nanotechnology Lab (NNL) consists of more than 60 researchers comprising of engineers, physicists, biologists and chemists. NNL explores and develops novel concepts and nano-systems, and aims to enhance its facilities to match those in the leading nanotechnology countries such as Japan and US.
The National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM)
The National Institute for the Physics of Matter (INFM) carries out fundamental and applied research on the physical properties of atomic, molecular and condensed matter systems.
Founded in 1976 as an engineering Institute, CRF has now adopted a new strategy for extended collaboration, opening its doors to business with other companies andorganisations which are seeking to achieve and maintain leadership in their respectivefields of activity.
Trade Alliances, Networks and Consultancy Firms
Nanotec IT (the Italian Centre for Nanotechnology) is an autonomous branch of AIRI(Italian Association for Industrial Research) whose primary objective is to become the national focal point for nanotechnology and contribute to making national activities more effective so that these efforts can be translated into a competitive industrial advantage.
Società Italiana Brevetti (SIB)
Società Italiana Brevetti (SIB) is a highly acclaimed consulting firm in the field of IPR, helping new companies deal with these issues arising from new technologies. SIB offers a full range of high quality services to protect new nanotechnology inventions.
Spin Off on board is a web-based facility set up by INFM, DIBE (Department of Engineering Biophysics and Electronics of the University of Genoa) and DIST (Department of Computer science, Sistemistica and Telematica of the University of Genoa). It has one of the largest databases of spin-offs in Italy, and contains information to support SMEs and on the creation of new Spin offs.
