Roadmap Report concerning the use of Nanomaterials in the Automotive Sector. Nanomaterial Roadmap 2015
Type of publication: Report
Abstract: NanoRoadSME is an EU funded Strategic Support Action which has developed roadmaps on nanomaterials until 2015 for the benefit of SMEs in four sectors including Automotive.
Summary: The main purpose of the roadmap is to assist SMEs considering the use of new nanomaterials in their products. They can benefit from a roadmap detailing improved properties, times to market, barriers for market entry and forecasts of costs and market sizes of a number of key materials in seven categories up to 2015. The materials categories are carbon based materials; polymers; metals and alloys; ceramics; biomaterials; composites; and glass nanomaterials. The roadmap is adapted to the needs of three types of SMEs: nanomaterial developers, nanomaterial producers, and user companies. The Automotive sector roadmap is divided in seven domains of the car where nanomaterials can play a role in the future. These domains are: Frames and Body parts; Engines and Powertrain; Paints and Coatings; Suspension and Braking Systems; Lubrication; Tires; Exhaust Systems and Catalytic Converters; Electric and Electronic Equipment.
