Nanotechnologien im Kontext. Philosophische, ethische und gesellschaftliche Perspectiven

Type of publication: Book

Abstract: This book gathers contributions of German philosophers, ethicists and social scientists on the actual and potential philosophical, ethical and societal aspects related to nanotechnology. The aim of the book is to argue for a close collaboration between natural, social and human scientists in nanoresearch already in this early stage of development.

Summary: The book is written by German speaking authors, thereby taking a particular place in the intercultural global debate on responsible development of nanotechnology. One of the controversies in this emerging global debate focuses on the steerability of nanotechnology. Another issue is the time horizon by which nanotechnolgy will change society (evolutionary or revolutionary). This volume does not answer all the questions but does stake out the problem horizon of the current debate. The authors choose to discuss nanotechnologies rather than nanotechnology, to show the possible different national priorities as well as enable more concrete analysis and opportunities to influence developments of subareas of nanotechnology.
