The ethics and politics of nanotechnology
Type of publication: Others
Abstract: This brochure explains what nanotechnology is and discusses its present ethical, legal and political implications.
Summary: The brochure starts by introducting UNESCO's nanotechnology activities, explaining what is nanotechnology and tracing the history of nanotechnology development. After a review of nanotechnology research now, they analyse contemporary debates on ethical, legal and political implications of nanotechnology. These include international aspects, toxicity and environmental implications, going beyond risk assessment, science ethics considerations and some distractions (ethical issues that aren't). They conclude that the public stakeholder debate on nanotechnology is only just beginning and should be managed well.
